Occupational Safety

Bachelors, 2019

What are your career aspirations?
I wish to find a home in the field of safety, where I can help ensure that everyone goes home in better condition than they came to work in.

Why did you decide to apply for an internship with MI?
I chose to apply for an internship at MI for the opportunity to work in a facility aiming for VPP and the opportunity to work at a facility that had already earned VPP. I did a previous internship with a chemical company and, though I enjoyed it, I wanted a little more hands on. When I heard about MI and how the internship for the safety program would be on the floor, I hopped on it. I really wanted to do it.

Who did you work with?
I worked with human resource administrator Tifini Clemens, safety coordinator, Chris Koperna, and director of safety, Mike Troutman.

What did you enjoy most?
Once a month the safety team members from all the facilities get together and discuss the different things they have done to improve their facilities. It’s during those meetings - that’s my favorite part of this internship. I got to see what everybody was working on and how they were helping each other make the facilities safe. I also really enjoyed helping the MI Profiles facility prepare its application for VPP.
