If you were to envision a hamlet that combines the best of urban, suburban, and small-town living, it would probably look a lot like Lyon Village in Arlington County, Va.

Home to approximately 800 single-family dwellings, Lyon Village sits across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C. But although the townsfolk are close enough to the nation’s capital that they that can see the base of the Washington Monument – and jump on a bus or subway train for a quick trip into the city – the vibe in Lyon Village is more Mayberry than Manhattan. There’s a 75-year-old community house that’s still in use, and the locals walk just about everywhere.

What’s more, walking through Lyon Village gives residents the chance to take in a stunning mix of architectural styles, including Queen Anne, Tudor Revival, and Spanish Mission Revival. Recently, a modern three-story home arose in Lyon Village that rivals the neighborhood’s other architectural wonders. It features an alluring front porch, stone columns, stone cladding, and vinyl windows from MI Windows and Doors.

“We’ve had success with MI products in the past,” said Frankie Martellotti, selections manager at Paradigm Homes, the company that designed and built the house. “Plus, it fit perfectly with what the homeowner wanted.”

Featuring an array of MI windows and doors, the Paradigm home in Lyon Village was built for a young family. Like most homeowners today, the residents built their new house with an eye toward energy efficiency.

“That was definitely a consideration,” said Martellotti, who’s been using MI products for five years. “If the windows were not energy efficient, we would have looked at a different brand.”

To ensure that the home boasted top-notch energy performance, Martellotti chose the V2000 Series double-hung window. The V2000 features an insulated glass unit and heavy-duty weatherstripping, and homeowners can select upgrades like gas between the panes and Low-E glass coatings to further enhance the windows’ energy efficiency.

The V2000 also has a traditional craftsmanship that augments any home’s appearance. This was an especially important consideration for a home in Lyon Village.

“The front façade of the home exudes charm and elegance,” said Melina Gray, construction administrator at Paradigm Homes. “This contributes to its curb appeal and welcoming presence.”

Martellotti also chose double-hung, casement, awning, and picture windows from MI’s V3000 Series. Designed for aesthetics, energy performance, and ease of use, the V3000 windows are ideal for renovations or new construction projects.

When it came time to select the sliding patio door for the new Paradigm home, Martellotti picked MI Windows’ A2000 four-panel door. An aluminum door, the A2000 is a stylish, aesthetically pleasing product that’s available in three colors: white, clay, and bronze. Martellotti opted for a white frame, and he also chose the pocket version of the A2000.

Engineered to disappear into a side “pocket” when open, pocket doors seamlessly blend interior and exterior spaces. In the new Paradigm house, the A2000 appears in the home’s parlor.

“By putting the pocket door there,” Gray said, “we allowed for flexible use of space and added privacy when needed.”

The end result is a home that fits in perfectly with its surroundings.

“The neighborhood features a mix of older homes and newer constructions,” Gray said, “reflecting a blend of traditional and modern architectural styles.”
