NAME:
 Jackie Bates

COMPANY NAME: Annandale Millwork

TITLE: Central Florida Installed Sales Manager

OFFICE LOCATION: Winchester,Va

How long have you been with your company and how long have you been in your current position?
JB: Almost 20 years overall; I’ll be at my current position two years in January.

What other positions have you held?
JB: I worked summers as a teenager, doing miscellaneous stuff – help with takeoff, OSHA work, scanning plans in. I did any random task. In my early years I was in customer service, then I was Customer Service Manager. From there, I moved on to purchasing and eventually became Purchasing Manager.

How many people work at your company and how many locations do you have?
JB: We 230 employees at our one location.

What supplies do you sell besides windows and patio doors?
JB: We’re a component manufacturer. We do anything that’s a component – wall panel, engineered wood, floor panel, interior doors, exterior doors. We prehang the doors, do interior trim, exterior trim; we also do custom architectural millwork.

What do you enjoy most about your work?
JB: I enjoy ultimately taking care of our customers. Of course, I also like all the things that go along with that to get it right: to be engaged with people here to make sure that that happens. I also enjoy the relationships I’ve made with vendors and the people that we deal with and buy products from.

What’s the biggest challenge in your work?
JB: One of the biggest challenges in this line of work is managing the flow. It can be really unpredictable. There’s the industry itself and how it flows, and there’s the issue of how we come into the picture and manage it. And there’s also the challenge of staying competitive while getting the customer what they need and when they need it at the right price. It’s hard work every day making that happen.

What’s one thing that you wish more people knew about your work?
JB: I wish more people knew how dedicated to our community and our industry our two owners (Rob and Gene Frogale) are. They are incredibly involved in different organizations, from the National Association of Homebuilders to the Homebuilders Association of Virginia to the Top of Virginia Building Association and the Northern Virginia Homebuilders Association. They’re just continually giving their time back because of their appreciation for it. And we’re extremely engaged in our local community.

Why do you like using MI Windows?
JB: We’ve been using MI for 25 years, and we love the service and the consistency. MI ships on time and the lead time stays consistent. You ship on time and your lead time stays consistent. Whenever we need anything, [MI Sales Representative] Chris Green has been amazing.

Why do you think MI Windows and your company make good partners?
JB: We have similar philosophies of how to sell our products. We both work hard to get it done right and on time for our customers. I think it’s also the ease of dealing with each other – we make good partners. MI offers a product that our customers are looking for.
