Alternatively, OITC measures frequencies from the outside, like barking dogs and rush-hour traffic. For this reason, OITC is a better standard for determining how well a window blocks outside noise. To get a window’s OITC score, you merely subtract the interior decibel from the exterior decibel. Thus, if your exterior decibel is 70 and the internal is 30, your OITC is 40. And just like with STC ratings, it’s better to have a higher OITC score.
