Located in the chic neighborhood of Reserve at Stoney Creek in Lee’s Summit, Mo., the St. Jude Dream Home® Kansas City is a beautiful new structure that was recently sold at auction to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. And when the new owner looks out of their home and contemplates their good fortune, they’ll be gazing through windows made by MI Windows and Doors.

The St. Jude Dream Home® is a fundraising endeavor started by St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Founded by entertainer Danny Thomas, St. Jude has been serving children suffering from pediatric cancer since 1962.
Sometimes the St. Jude Dream Homes are raffled off. In this particular case, the builder – Summit Homes – decided to sell the house and donate the proceeds to the hospital. In June, Summit Homes officials wrote a check for $718,000 to St. Jude; it’s just part of the $6 million that the company has raised for the famed children’s hospital since 2011.

“This home was built entirely to support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital,” Summit Homes’ Whitney Rinne says. “We worked with our network of amazing trade partners and local and national sponsors to have all materials and labor donated. That way, 100 percent of the proceeds from the sale of the home could be donated directly to the hospital.

“We have an incredible group of trade partners who came together with our Summit team to build this home at zero cost,” Summit Chief Operating Officer Zalman Kohen adds. “Without their support and the support of our local and national sponsors, this project would not be possible. It’s truly a labor of love for all involved.”

This 4,600-square-foot home features five bedrooms and six baths. There’s also a wet bar, exercise room, sauna, and home theater. In the kitchen, the new owners will have the use of a quartz waterfall island and a party prep zone. Take a step outside and you’ll see a composite deck and a fire pit.
“During the 12+ years that we have done business with Summit, they have built six St. Jude homes,” MI Sales Representative Brad Holtz says. “Collectively with our distributors’ help, we have either discounted or donated the windows for this great cause on multiple occasions. It has always been Summit Homes’ vision to deliver St. Jude with a zero-cost home, and we have helped them work toward that goal.”

For this one-of-a-kind home, Summit decided to use approximately 40 of MI’s 3500 Series vinyl single-hung windows, which offer handcrafted quality, exceptional durability, optimal energy efficiency, a pre-punched mounting fin and removable sash for easy drywall pass through. With this unique combination of homeowner and builder-friendly attributes, the 3500 is ideal for any new home construction project and is one of MI’s top sellers.

“We were transitioning to MI Windows on our production homes,” Rinne says, “and felt that the dream home should utilize the same windows.”

All of the windows for this home were painted black. To ensure customers have access to today’s most popular options, MI offers eight distinctive exterior painted colors on many of its windows. All are available with matching grids and screens to ensure a consistent and cohesive finish. The environmentally friendly, water-based coatings feature heat-reflective pigments to minimize heat gain, resulting in outstanding coverage and long-term durability.

“The style and exterior color of the MI windows worked well with our contemporary elevation,” Rinne says.

Each 3500 single-hung and picture window boasts optimal energy efficiency thanks to Low-E glass and a warm-edge spacer system that keeps the home at a comfortable temperature in all seasons. And the full-length lift rail and metal reinforcements at the meeting rail provide practical performance benefits that complement the window’s builder-friendly attributes such as its snap-in sill.

Indeed, the high-quality 3500 windows are a perfect fit for this state-of-the art home whose 40 on-trend windows provide endless views to all the surrounding amenities. The Dream Home® Kansas City is a first-class home in a first-class neighborhood. Reserve at Stoney Creek is a highly desired community that offers swimming pools, a sand volleyball court, and close proximity to the Osage Trails Park. Located near the area schools, Stoney Creek also boasts annual summer socials and other get-togethers. It’s an ideal location to raise a family, and a great place to settle down while simultaneously helping the noble cause of fighting pediatric cancer.
