MI Charitable Foundation Commits $1M To Four Diamonds To Conquer Childhood Cancer

HERSEY, PA –  August 16, 2021 – The MI Charitable Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Gratz, PA-based MI Windows and Doors, has committed $1 million to Penn State’s Four Diamonds, demonstrating the company’s continued commitment to help conquer childhood cancer.

“This tremendous gift from MI Windows and Doors will help children fighting cancer at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital to receive superior care and comprehensive support services without their loved ones ever having to worry about how they will pay for that care,” said Steve Massini, CEO of Penn State Health. “It will also help to advance our research, which has the power to impact children around the world through better prevention, treatments and ultimately a cure for all childhood cancers.”

The relationship between MI Windows and Doors and Four Diamonds has grown over the past six years. The hallmark of the relationship has been focused on creating special opportunities for Four Diamonds children. MI has included in their annual contract with Penn State Sports the special opportunity for Four Diamonds children to serve as the “Kick Off Kid” at home Penn State football games, and the “Zamboni Kid” at home Penn State ice hockey games. These special opportunities will continue within the new $1 million commitment.

“We are fortunate to have so many wonderful people inside our business that care so deeply about giving back – and there is no better way to give back than to help children and families fighting childhood cancer,” said MI CEO Matt DeSoto. “It is our hope that this gift makes their fight easier, because they shouldn’t have to worry about anything but their health.”

The five-year, $1 million commitment will provide $200,000 in unrestricted funds annually to support providing superior care and comprehensive support to Four Diamonds children fighting cancer at Penn State Health and driving innovative research at Penn State College of Medicine in pursuit of cures for all childhood cancers. Throughout the course of the five-year commitment, MI Windows and Doors will be prominently recognized as a presenting sponsor for several fundraising initiatives, including Four Diamonds’ upcoming 50th anniversary, the Four Diamonds Mini-THON Leadership Summit, Penn State Dance Marathon (THON), and Play For The Kids, a newly-launched collaborative fundraising initiative to benefit THON and Four Diamonds.

This gift will advance "A Greater Penn State for 21st Century Excellence," a focused campaign that seeks to elevate Penn State’s position as a leading public university in a world defined by rapid change and global connections. With the support of alumni and friends, “A Greater Penn State” seeks to fulfill the three key imperatives of a 21st-century public university: keeping the doors to higher education open to hardworking students regardless of financial well-being; creating transformative experiences that go beyond the classroom; and impacting the world by serving communities and fueling discovery, innovation and entrepreneurship.
