This Saturday, our partner Homes For Our Troops will be hosting a Volunteer Day and Key Ceremony for their 300th home recipient and will also be participating in the National Day of Service and Remembrance for September 11.
The custom home will be presented to Army SGT Nate Shumaker and family in Hillsboro, MO. SGT Shumaker, a Purple Heart recipient, was severely injured while serving in Afghanistan. Similar to all Homes For Our Troops builds, this house features more than 40 major special adaptations such as widened doorways for wheelchair access, a roll-in shower, and kitchen amenities that include pull-down shelving and lowered countertops. The windows MI supplies are specially designed to be easily operated from a wheelchair—allowing ample natural light and fresh air into the home. The thoughtful adaptations to Homes For Our Troops houses are important to limit mobility and safety issues associated with a traditional home, including navigating a wheelchair through narrow hallways or over thresholds, riding on carpets, or reaching for cabinets that are too high.
MI is proud to help our country's heroic veterans by supplying the windows for Homes For Our Troops’ projects and volunteering at construction sites. Join us in thanking Homes For Our Troops and SGT Shumaker for their incredible service to our country by participating in this weekend’s events.
