We are sending technicians to consumers’ homes to repair the door panels, at no cost to the consumer. The door does not have to be removed from the house in order to complete the remediation.
- What is the problem with my door?

During hurricane conditions, the glass can separate from the frame which can pose a risk of injury. MI is not aware of any instances of this happening, but we have initiated this voluntary recall to remediate the door panels out of an abundance of caution.

My door appears to be okay. Can I continue to use it?

You can continue to use your door during non-hurricane conditions. If a hurricane warning is issued for your geographic area, secure plywood or other sufficient protection over your door and avoid the area.
- I bought my door from Window World. Why is MI recalling a Window World door?

MI is one of the manufacturers who make and private label windows and doors for Window World. If your Window World door was manufactured by MI, the label at the head of the door will say “MI Windows.”

How do I know if my MI® door is part of the recall?

MI has manufactured the 1615 and 1617 doors since April 2018. Some of the 1615 and 1617 doors manufactured between April 2018 and March 7, 2023 are part of the recall. All 1615 and 1617 doors sold with the DP50 upgrade are part of the recall. 1615 and 1617 doors sold as impact resistant are part of the recall depending on where they were manufactured.

How do I know if my Window World door is part of the recall?

MI manufactures 4000 Series and 8000 Series doors for Window World. Some of the doors manufactured between April 2018 and March 7, 2023 are part of the recall. Not all 4000 Series or 8000 Series doors were manufactured by MI. The label at the head of the door should say “MI Windows Series 4000” or “MI Windows Series 8000.” If another manufacturer or series number is listed, you do not have the recalled door.
All 4000 Series doors sold with a DP50 upgrade and manufactured by MI before March 7, 2023 are part of the recall.
8000 Series doors manufactured by MI before March 7, 2023 are part of the recall depending on where they were manufactured. Look at the label at the head of the door. Your 8000 Series door is part of the recall only if manufactured by MI and has the manufacturer code MTL-2. 8000 Series doors with a manufacturer code of MTL-12 are not part of the recall.
- How do I know when my door was manufactured?

The label at the head of your door identifies the month and year of manufacture. The month is listed as a one or two digit number, then a forward backslash, followed by a four digit number which is the year of manufacture. If your door was manufactured in March 2023, we can look up your order to determine whether it was manufactured before or after March 7, 2023.

What is the easiest way to determine if my door is part of the recall?

We can look up your order if you have the order number. Look for a label at the top of your door that has a 10 or 11 digit number, comprised of 9 numbers, a period, and one or two numbers after the period. It may say ORD before the numbers. If the door does not have an order number, there may be one on other MI doors or windows in your home that we can use to find the order.

- How do I know if I have an MI 1615 or 1617 door?

The 1615 and 1617 doors are vinyl sliding glass doors. Look at the head of your door for an AAMA label. If the label says “MI Windows Series 1615” or “MI Windows Series 1617” then you have a 1615 or 1617 door. If it identifies a different series number, your door is not part of the recall.
- How do I know if my MI 1615 or 1617 door is impact resistant or DP50?

MI makes several types of 1615 and 1617 doors: a standard door, an impact resistant door and a DP50 door. There are two ways to determine if your 1615 or 1617 door is standard, impact resistant, or DP50.
One way is to look at the AAMA label, which should be found at the head of the door. If the AAMA label says, LC-PG50 under “Perf Grade” you have either an impact resistant or DP50 door. If the performance grade lists a number other than “50” your door is a standard door and not part of the recall.
A second way to tell if your door is standard, impact resistant, or DP50 is to look at the interlock. The interlock is located at the bottom of the moving panel of the door. The impact resistant and DP50 doors have an aluminum interlock, while the standard door has a vinyl interlock. There are photos of the aluminum and vinyl interlocks on this recall page. If your door has a vinyl interlock, it is not part of the recall.
If the door label says, “Missile Level D, Wind Zone 3, Conforms to ASTM E1186 & E1996,” your door is an impact resistant door. If that is not on your label but Perf Grade “LC-PG50” is on the label, your door is a DP50 door.

- What happens if I request the repair?

We will review your claim to confirm you have the recalled door, and once confirmed we will contact you to schedule an appointment to have a technician come to your home to repair the door panels. On some occasions, it may be necessary to replace the door panels. Either way, the door frame does not have to be removed from the house or building.
The repair will be completed at no cost to you. The two things we ask of you are to be home at the time of the appointment and to move furnishings or other obstacles that may impede access to the door prior to the arrival of the technician.
